My 'hot girl' jeans

Aug 20, 2010

image from flic.kr The last time I wore these jeans, a friend of mine referred to my ensemble as my 'hot girl outfit.' Hmm...hot girl outfit, I think I'm ok with that. Now, if my hot girl outfit included these jeans, doesn't some sort of math property make these my 'hot girl jeans?' I think so!

Now, every girl has one favorite pair of jeans that is super comfy and looks absolutely amazing on her. Is this that pair? Absolutely not. Contrary to popular belief, or at least IMHO, skinny jeans are NOT comfortable. No- they're tight and binding, they limit your mobility and they cause endless anxiety regarding possible underwear-showage. They make it hard to bend down to pick up dropped dog treats, to randomly dance for joy in your office's break room while waiting for coffee to brew, or to do anything that involves a shred of athleticism.

image from www.flickr.com No, these aren't my favorite jeans...they're my hot girl jeans! (Also note how Z and I are making the same face!)
image from www.flickr.com And hey, if this photo doesn't scream 'hot' to you, I don't know what does. Just kidding!! Have a great weekend everyone. I most certainly will not be spending mine in these pants, I plan on wearing shorts and comfy sundresses all weekend long. Oooh, and maybe a bathing suit. Hitting the pool would be nice...

Farewell to the 40s!

Aug 2, 2010

37795_1388768359122_1229460187_31114309_45122_n My stepmom didn't want to have a 50th birthday party, so she had a 49.5 party...aka "farewell to the 40s" this past Saturday. (FYI, that's her in the first photo with the band, Fools and Horses.) It was LOADS of fun. The drinks were flowing, the band fantastic, the food tasty and the people fun.

35987_1388763759007_1229460187_31114263_578528_n Plus, I got to buy a new dress, which I did Saturday morning FYI and it only cost me $12.99! (Can you tell I'm proud of myself?)
37842_1388768079115_1229460187_31114303_3418232_n Sophie and I performed the song "Stranded" by Plumb, which we first heard in 10 Things I Hate about You. It's actually the second time we've performed this song in front of a crowd. Even though I've been doing plays and singing in front of people for years, I still get nervous every time.

I think I'll leave you with this: the photo that I cropped and made my profile picture and the accompanying comments, which I personally find sort of hysterical.

Your unmentionables are showing

Jul 5, 2010

image from farm5.static.flickr.comI'm not sure if you know this, but my mom is a music teacher/puppeteer and ok, sometimes a total rock star among her 3-year-old students. I don't remember exactly which puppet mentioned the word "unmentionables" to describe a pair of underwear to a bunch of little kids, but the term still sticks out in my mind. Yes, I was present during the show, and yes, I probably laughed like a little kid.

I mean seriously, underwear itself is funny, but give it a great name and it's hysterical...especially if you're under the age of 6. Or if you're a boy.

So yes, in the picture above you can see my "unmentionables," which in this case refers to my slip. Oops.

I'm Wearing:
Vest & dress: H&M
Tank: Target
Shoes: Gap
Necklace:
Primark
Slip: "vintage" aka it used to belong to one of my relatives (maybe Bubbie?)  and my mom cut it down to fit me

Also notable, I wore this outfit on a day I knew Sam (the dog) was coming to work. I made sure I was wearing something that he in no way could pull down. Seriously, with a tank top, a dress that ties around the neck and a vest, he had little chance of exposing me again!

PS- your epidermis is showing ;)

Boys will be girls

Jul 4, 2010

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook today and it made me laugh. I figured it would make you laugh too! Happy 4th of July everyone. Don't get ignited by any fireworks and try to keep your hair away from sparklers- yours truly lost a chunk of her hair in a sparkler related incident (sans-alcohol, I promise).

Final exam in fashion

Jun 29, 2010

DSC_5170 Before Thibault left Baltimore, I asked him to put together a G3B worthy outfit. Determined to use all of the fashion knowledge he'd acquired over the past 5 months, Thibault set out to do what would have been impossible just weeks before (totally kidding).

Here's what he came up with- I will say, he picked most of the pieces himself!DSC_5169I'm sorry for all the awful faces made in these photos- Sophie took them while we were sitting in the back seat of my mom's convertible that was top-down and in motion. It was windy. I made faces. End of story.
DSC_5191 Ughhhh sorry about the face- we took limited photos because I'm awkward about having my picture taken in public places.
DSC_5192 I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Loft
Belt: Primark
Skirt: Uniqlo
Shoes: DSW
Bow: won via Daily Candy contest

Student Report Card

Student Name: Thibault
Age: 21
Major: Physics
Course title: Fashion 101

Use of color:
Grade: A-
Teacher's comments: Great choice of red! It adds a pop of color to the outfit without being too overwhelming.

Attention to detail:
Grade: A-
Teacher's comments: The student chose both the bow embellished shoes and the bow hair clip, which I think go very nicely together. It's details like these that help pull together an outfit.

Use of accessories:
Grade: B+
Teacher's comments: Although the student correctly chose both the shoes and hair piece, he neglected to add a belt to this outfit. The belt shown was the model's own addition.

Ability to match:
Grade: B-
Teacher's comments: The model had to choose the skirt for this outfit...

Overall Grade: A-

On behalf of everyone at G3B Style Academy, please accept this diploma:Picture 1Congratulations Thibault, you've passed with flying colors! The people of Switzerland thank you and look forward to your style advice in the army.

Halloween 2010

Jun 17, 2010

Eric thinks we should dress up as Katy and snoop for Halloween. I think he's spot on. I so want to wear that dots dress! Now, where we're going to find something that even remotely resembles Snoop's suit is beyond me.

Blogger date with Kate!

Jun 16, 2010

image from farm5.static.flickr.com A few weeks ago, I received an email from my blog friend, Kate (Hi Kate!) saying she'd be in Baltimore hanging out with her grandma and asking if I wanted to meet up. Of course I wanted to meet Kate- she's hysterical. You guys remember, she wrote that great guest post about her jegging dilemma!

You know how people say they read a blog and feel like they know the writer personally? Well, that's how it felt with Kate. There was very little time for awkward silence as we had a lot of "catching up" to do. (It's weird that you can catch up with someone you've never met, but I guess the Internet has that kind of effect on people.)

We had delicious brunch with my fam and even walked around a street fair near Hopkins. There were loads of artists selling their creations, as well as people selling seemingly random items. Even more notable: there was an entire grassy area covered in hula hoops just waiting to be....hula hooped (?) with. You know, just for fun.

image from farm5.static.flickr.com Seriously, how cute does Kate look? She told me I wasn't allowed to wear anything too "chic" because she couldn't fit a lot in her duffle. I purposefully wore something pretty plain so she'd feel comfortable and guess what? She totally out-cuted me!

So I'm curious, has anyone else met up with their blog friends in real life? Did it turn out ok or was it super awkward? Do tell!

Just a laugh

IMAG0018

My dad took this photo in the parking lot before Lauren's lacrosse game. We both thought these bumper stickers were pretty funny, so of course my dad had to stop and take a picture.

I think, no, I know, that my sense of humor is being shaped my by father. Seriously, I find myself making Jewish dad-like jokes all the time.

Is this happening to anyone else?

A VERY important phone call

May 5, 2010

image from farm5.static.flickr.com
En-route to my cousin Leslie's house to babysit her kids, my phone started ringing. (Actually, it didn't ring per-se, but rather played Simon and Garfunkle's "Cecilia," but that's not important right now.) I struggled to find the volume button on my new car's stereo and answered the phone as fast as I could.

"Hello?" I asked, a bit flustered.

Pause.

"How much minutes til you get here?" a small voice asked.

I chuckled a bit to myself- Alec had been asking the same question just the day before, only I was with him and he was calling his mother...about every 3 minutes.

image from farm4.static.flickr.com

"10 minutes," I replied.

"Whaaaat?"

"10 minutes, Alec."

Click. He hung up on me.

Apparently, he tried calling again but accidentally called the wrong number and spoke to some guy. He told his mom he'd talked to my husband.

How cute is Alec? Sure, he has weird licking habits, doesn't always pick up his toys and sports blue toenail polish, but what can I say, I love the kid :)

Meet Minnie...or is it Robin?

May 3, 2010

DSC02523

Yup, that's me in my new car. Only problem? She doesn't have a name yet! I wanted to name her Minnie (for obvious reasons) but I'm not sure if that's just too obvious. Sure, the spelling's a bit different, but it's not very creative.

31221_118454084845023_100000412957482_199254_7942803_n

I was also thinking Robin because of the color. Or maybe it's because the name Robin was fresh in my mind from HIMYM.

Either way, she's still pretty cute.

Do you have any better name ideas? Help a tiny Mini owner out!
