This must be love

image from farm5.static.flickr.com I have the hardest time saying no to this face. Zooey has pretty much taken over my life. Whether I'm dropping tons of $$ at the vet (who is so, so dreamy...he's like my McVet), waking up extra early to walk her or bringing her to work, pretty much everything I do somewhow involves Zooey.

She's been really great so far- the only problem? She has a phobia of men. This makes me particularly sad because it means she was probably abused in the past by a scary  man. Also, it means that Zooey barks and puts on her scary face whenever we're around guys. It's so weird to see her transform from a sweet, tail-wagging, bundle of adorable to a scrunchy-faced, snarling animal who tries to bite your ankles.

Even still, we're working through Zooey's issues. As my parents said, if I ever want to date again, I need to figure out a way for Zooey to feel comofortable around men. I really  hate yelling at her, so this training thing is going to be hard.

Any suggestions?

Casual Thursday: the secret spot

Normally, I save my jeans for Friday, but today was an exception. After spending way too much time listening to people with mullets talk about their Harleys at the MVA (my wallet was stolen yesterday and I needed to get a new license), I headed in to work for just over an hour.

Then, I went on a special mission with another intern that involved a lot of driving! We've been tasked to plan a company event for late July and spent a good chunk of today checking out one possible location.

These photos were taken by my sister, Sophie, when I got home from work. The dog is Bailey and the boy is Thibault. I like both of them a lot.

Necklace: Stolen from Sophie :)
Headband: CVS (I think!)

Home slice

May 3, 2010

I really love it when Andrea gives just a slice of her weekend through a few photos, so I thought I'd do the same. These photos are some of my favorites taken on a random Friday at my Dad's house.

From top: Daisy in her favorite spot, a dandelion aka allergen landmine, a look up at the trees, two leftover wineglasses, relaxing on the hammock, Bailey and Daisy playing nicely- a rarity, Peter napping on the couch, toy carnage.

Next time I'll have to show you some photos from my mom's house!

Happy birthday, baby sis

Apr 3, 2010

Today, my little sister turns 19. (No, she's not a puppy, she's a person. The photo above is of her new puppy, Marley, who slightly resembles her American cousin, Ms. Sadie Pants/Princess Sadie). I still remember her childhood birthday parties (her friends were so loud!) and her Easter bunny shaped cake.

So, here's hoping that 19 is an amazing year! As the traditional Jewish saying says, "Ad me'ah v'esrim"- may you live until 120. Or as my favorite Hebrew play on words goes, "ad me'ah k'esrim"- which roughly translates to: may you live until 100, as if you were 20.

I love you, Sophie!

Welcome to Watchland part 1: Geneva

Mar 29, 2010

I arrived in Geneva at around 11:30 and Thibault was there in the airport waiting for me. As soon as I saw him I couldn't stop smiling. I ran over and gave him a big hug and he lifted me in the air and kissed my forehead. We  left the airport, hand in  hand, and took a little tour of Geneva. Unfortunately, the weather, which had been 70 degrees and sunny just the day before my arrival, decided to act up all weekend. It definitely put a damper on our plans and my phot0s (that was for you, Acc), but I still had an amazing time.

Here are a few pictures from Geneva:

Apparently, my need to stop and say hi to all kinds of birds isn't strange. Thibault thinks it's cute. I think he's a winner!

Yup, this IS a new red coat. I'm calling it my "in between coat" because it's mid-weight. Unfortunately, it has no pockets.

Even though the weather was really yucky, I am excited to say i saw not one, but FIVE rainbows in just one day. I've always thought of rainbows as very special, so it was a great way to start the trip.

I have a ton more Geneva pictures to post, plus a bunch from Neuchatel, but you'll have to be satisfied with these for today. If you're celebrating, have a wonderful passover!

Puppy Passover

Passover-2010

Passover starts tomorrow and I am hardly ready. Have I cleaned out my cubby? No. Have I purchased any Passover food? No. Sigh. It's a good thing I ate so much delicious food in Switzerland this weekend, otherwise a week of Passover sans my mom's cooking would probably be even worse. I'll probably buy a lot of vegetables tomorrow to get me through the week. Potatoes and salad, here I come!

Confessions of a fashion intern: grit and glamor

Mar 24, 2010

You'd be crazy to say that any job was absolutely perfect. Clearly, all jobs, especially internships, have their perks as well as their not so fun aspects.

Here's a bit of the grit and glamor of my internship:

Glamor: I make daily trips to Vogue House. (Also, whenever I think of the phrase "Vogue House," I immediately hear Ludacris singing "Roll out.")

Vogue-house

Grit: I typically go to the loading area in the back of the building. It's not all that glitzy.

Stop-spitting

Glamor: I once Randomly stumbled upon a Harvey Nichols event in the park where I eat lunch. Oh yeah, Samantha Ronson was DJing

Sam-ronson

Grit: Today I Carried a full-size, naked manikin across a major street and got loads of stares. Thank goodness for the help of fellow intern, Vicky, who admitted she felt slightly uncomfortable holding the manikin between its legs.

Person

Glamor: I once spotted a dog with a pink dipped tail on my lunch break. (He was hanging with his owner at the Harvey Nichols event.)

Pink-tail

Grit: The elevator broke and we had to carry an entire showroom's worth of clothing down 4 flights of stairs. Thankfully, almost the entire press team, not just the interns, took part in this gruesome task and the lift was eventually fixed.

Glamor: I get to help out at a major charity event tomorrow night- I'm in charge of handing out goody bags.

It's always good to end on a positive note :)

Birthday Pup

DSC02440

I know all of you Maryland/DC people have gotten a lot of snow. Yet while you (and Sadie) have been stuck at home, we Londoners (ha, I'm a Londoner now) have enjoyed some quite rare weather: sunshine.

Although I see tons of adorable dogs every day  in Hyde Park and around Kensington, Sadie is just 100 x cuter. I miss her.

...and now an email from my mother:

Girls,

In case you didn't know, today is Sadie's birthday.  We were told she was born in February and so I chose the 14th for the date, since it was in the middle of the month and an easy date to remember.

I splurged, totally indulged, and bought her a new dog bed (which she may not get for a while, since she tore holes in her old one fairly recently).  This one is made from a blue on blue chintz fabric and resembles an armchair or sofa with a back and armrests, but without the legs (the better to curl up in, my dears).  When she proves herself mature enough, she'll get it!

Anyway, just wanted to keep you in the loop regarding your baby sister.

Love, love, love, your mother

Duck! What?

Seeing-double

Alright, so I realize that these photos don't actually contain ducks, but the title was just so perfect! It's actually a reference from The Swan Princess, and if you knew that (Sophie, you better know what I'm talking about), then you're a star in my book!

These photos were all taken on a rare sunny day in Hyde Park, just before sunset. I am in love with the contrast between the white swans, their orange beaks and the blue water. Plus, I have a strange obsession with taking photos of birds, even though they sort of freak me out.

Jerusalem in Photos

Dec 31, 2009

On Tuesday, I grabbed a few hours by myself to take photos around Jerusalem of places that hold specific memories of my time here three years ago. I found the place where I got my nose pierced, as well as a few of my favorite coffee shops.

I took the time to photograph a bunch of different cats, as well as visit the store where I used to buy string for crocheting kippot. Interestingly, as I sat with my Nikon, trying to capture an image of a  stray kitten, a young man sat down next to me, curious about my camera and interested in sharing the many photos he'd taken on his cellphone.

We conversed for about an hour, both in Hebrew and English, about our photos, my family and his future plans to study homeopathic medicine. Though his English was not amazing, and my Hebrew was a bit rusty due to non-use in Boston, we still managed to carry on a highly intelligent conversation. To be honest with you, I was surprised that he got up to leave without asking for my number. Still, I'm excited to add a new memory to my list: the time I spent an hour chatting in Hebrish (Engbrew?) with a stranger.

Below are a few of my favorite photos of the day. To see the rest of the photos, and for some more detailed explanations, check out the flickr set.
