Earth Day Explosion!
Apr 22, 2009
A few weeks ago, I worked on a feature story for one of my writing classes about eco-fashion. I interviewed some really awesome ladies- Emily from Baggu, Aysia from GreenLoop as well as KBoss, who is a big believer in sustainability. In addition to providing some really great material for my assignment, these ladies also taught me a valuable lesson: helping the environment doesn't have to require huge sacrifices. Instead, try to make small, manageable changes. Hey, it's not that hard to buy a reusable water bottle or turn the heat down a few degrees!
From my paper:
"Though Emily, Aysia and Katin embrace eco-fashion from different perspectives, they are all tied together by a similar sentiment: you don’t have to make huge life altering changes to help the environment. Whether you’re filling a reusable Baggu in the grocery store, making an ethical fashion purchase online or buying local produce, you’re making a small change to help a great cause. "
Mrs. Meyers Clean Day products- I've talked before about how Megan and I sometimes use the shampoo and soap that people leave in our COMMUNAL bathroom. Well, we've both fallen in love with the lavender dish soap that sits on the sink in the pink bathroom. It smells amazing and we both use it to wash our hands. Don't tell anyone! Plus, it's eco friendly and relatively inexpensive. I really want to buy some of Mrs. Meyer's hand soap in the lavender scent. Oh, and Mrs. Meyer's is offering free shipping for earth day, so check it out.
Baggu- these reusable shopping bags are adorable and come in practically every color. They're also extremely portable and fold up into little matching pouches. You can throw a bunch of them in your purse and use them for grocery shopping or carrying library books. I'm definitely going to buy a few in bright colors- they'll be great for bringing on a spring picnic or buying produce at a local farmer's market. Oh yeah, they're also pretty inexpensive and extremely durable. Think about it this way, these bags are not only cute, but also help reduce waste!
Lush cosmetics- I think I fell in love with Lush when I spent break with Jenni in Canada. We loaded up on handmade bathbombs and facemasks and had a spa night. It was wonderful. I also recently discovered their solid shampoo bars- I love the Godiva, which smells like Jasmine. Plus, because the shampoo is solid and comes free of packaging, you're eliminating unnecessary and wasteful shampoo bottles.
GreenLoop- started by Aysia Wright, an environmental activist with a taste for fashion. Her store includes all kinds of cute and eco-friendly clothing and accessories. GreenLoop is proof that ethical clothing doesn't have to be granola-y or distusting. I also reccoment checking out her company blog.
Happy Earth Day everyone! I know I'm going to "do my part" by picking up the disgusting cigarrette butts off my front stoop. How are you helping mother earth today?

Great Earth Day contribution! Love this! I'll have to check out some of these sites! thanks for sharing :)
Love, love, love those bags!
I know! They're really great. I want a hot pink one!
How could a Godiva solid shampoo bar smell like jasmine and not chocolate? I don't get it.
I think it's because lady Godiva had really pretty hair...
Guess that makes sense, though it would be a secondary allusion to us chocoholics.
